Joint pain or arthritis can begin as a result of injury, repetitive actions that cause stress on a particular joint, an autoimmune disease, or just as a result of age and the general wear and tear associated to it. Over time, the cartilage in your joints can begin to wear away. Cartilage is what makes the movement in your joints smooth; without it the bones will actually rub together causing pain, stiffness and inflammation (swelling). Inflammation is meant to be a healthy response wherein the white blood cells and chemicals in our body attempt to fight off infection or viruses. Chronic pain and inflammation that is not associated with an infection or virus is not good. Fortunately, there are some wonderful herbs that have long been used to combat pain and inflammation. Our Anti-Inflammation Formula not only is effective in dramatically reducing pain and inflammation but the herbs used are some of the safest available and can be used on a long-term basis without worry of interfering or reacting to other nutrients or drugs. The herbs in Turmeric Combo are not only great stand alone herbs for pain and inflammation, but when combined together they synergistically are even more effective.
Western Botanicals Turmeric Formula contains: Turmeric, Frankincense, Ginger Root, White Willow Bark, Devils Club Root, Lobelia and Cayenne in a vegetarian capsule.
Turmeric (Curcuma longa): Turmeric accounts for the yellow color of curry and American mustard and has a distinctive sharp-flavor as it is a member of the ginger family. Turmeric is used for all inflammatory disorders, including arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis and autoimmune conditions. Turmeric in animal models completely inhibited the onset of rheumatoid arthritis. Turmeric is also used to improve circulation and digestion. Recent research suggests that turmeric appears to fight melanoma cells and prostate cancer, and slow the spread of breast cancer. Further studies report that curcumin, an active constituent of turmeric, could also have a positive effect on Alzheimer's, Parkinson’s and diabetes, and anecdotal evidence suggests it helps asthma, bronchitis, psoriasis, and bowel disorders such as Crohn's disease and cancers of the colon. In addition to their anticancer effects, antioxidants in turmeric may protect the brain, kidneys, liver, and lungs from damage by alcohol, drugs, radiation, heavy metals such as lead, or chemicals such as dry cleaning fluid.
Boswellia (Boswellia serrata): Also known as Indian Frankincense has been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine for the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia. Researchers have found that boswellia helps prevent the deterioration of cartilage and joint tissue improving blood flow to the joints. In studies of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease boswellia reduced gastrointestinal inflammation and tissue damage. It appears that Boswellia deters inflammatory white cells from infiltrating into damaged tissue. In a study of 175 patients with rheumatic disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, a crippling joint disease, 122 participants experienced reduced stiffness and inflammation two to four weeks after starting on a boswellia regimen. Boswellia's anti-inflammatory properties can help to reduce aching and stiffness, especially when associated with low back pain.
Ginger: Powdered dry ginger is an excellent anti-inflammatory. A 1992 study in which ginger was given to people who suffered from muscle pain, showed substantial relief for over 75 percent of those who had painful rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. And best of all, no one experienced side effects not even the people who continued to take it for more than two years.
Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) is native to South Africa, lives in dry soils, and produces large underground tubers that are a source of both food and medicine. Devils Claw seems best for back pain, osteoarthritis, and muscular pain.
Recommended Dosage: 2 to 3 capsules – two to three times daily. Turmeric Combo (Anti-Inflammation Formula) is very safe and can be used for long-term management.
Precautions: Be patient: the full benefit takes two months to develop. Not recommended if you have gallstones or bile duct dysfunction. Pregnant women shouldn't use it without their doctor's approval. In rare cases, extended use can cause stomach upset or heartburn.
